The release of After Effects CC in July 2018 (version 15.1.2)

In this release, After Effects improved hardware accelerated decoding performance, enhanced and improved support for formats, and fixed bugs.

H.264 and HEVC video hardware-accelerated decoding in macOS

H.264 and HEVC decoding with hardware acceleration on MacBook Pro and iMac Pro computers with Mac OS 10.13.
To accelerate, use the Quick Sync Video feature of Intel processors. Hardware accelerated decoding is not available on Mac Pro (end of 2013) due to the lack of support for Quick Sync Video.
Hardware accelerated HEVC decoding requires iMac Pro (end of 2015) or a later MacBook Pro model (with Skylake microarchitecture or Kaby Lake microarchitecture).
To enable hardware accelerated decoding of H.264 and HEVC, select Settings> Import, select the Enable hardware accelerated decoding check box, and then restart After Effects. This feature is not available in MacOS 10.12 and earlier versions and does not work if the computer does not meet the hardware requirements.
H.264 or HEVC codec video in an MPEG-4 (.mp4) or QuickTime (.mov) container can be decoded with hardware acceleration. MPEG Transport Stream containers (.mts) are not supported.
Due to hardware limitations, only H.264 4: 2: 0 8 bits per channel are supported.

Support for new video formats

This release of After Effects supports importing the following video formats:
Panasonic: camera acquisition metadata is now displayed in the Dynamic Media area of the Metadata panel.
RED: In this release, the RED SDK is updated to version 7.0.7, which fixes bugs and improves the performance of decoding .r3d files.
Sony X-OCN: Fw, F55, F65 and Venice RAW / X-OCN camera decoding performance has been improved in this release.
